Emergency Kit Giveaway
On Thursday, October 15th organizations nationwide participated in the Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill. The event provides the community with the opportunity to practice and prepare for a natural or man-made disaster. Residents are encouraged to make their home emergency ready and be prepared to care for themselves and their family for at least 72 hours after an emergency. Residents should:
Store water and non-perishable food
Maintain and complete repairs to homes and vehicles
Set up a family communication plan
Prepare an emergency bag with medication and other personal needs
Consider the needs of children, the disabled, and elderly.
In the event of an earthquake, residents are reminded to:
Drop to the ground
Take cover under a sturdy table or desk, and
Hold on until the shaking stops.
In support of emergency preparedness, on Saturday, October 17th the Office of Emergency Services and City will be providing 400 complementary Emergency Preparedness backpacks. The bags contain basic survival items which provide a single person, 72 hours of sustenance and safety supplies.
